ONE OF MY FAVOURITE FABRICS IS VICUNA, WHICH THE INCAS USED TO REFER TO AS “THE FABRIC OF THE GODS”. IT IS THE WORLD’S MOST EXPENSIVE FABRIC, AND AT AN AVERAGE OF 12 MICRONS IN DIAMETER VICUNA FIBRE IS EIGHT TIMES FINER THAT HUMAN HAIR.
This is an example of a bespoke jacket we made here in Sydney using 310gm worsted vicuna fabric sourced from Loro Piana in Italy. It features silver buttons and a hand engraved silver hanging chain and plaque produced by Sydney master hand engraver John Thompson. I hope you like it.
You can read a lot more about vicuna and see a number of other examples of garments I have made from vicuna including the most expensive overcoat made in Australia by visiting www.vicunabespoke.com
Born in 1949 and christened John Handel Lawson Cutler, I am the fourth generation of my family to take up the tailor's shears. I joined the family business straight from school at 16 years of age. Even before then I had always shown a very keen interest in bespoke tailoring and shirt making.
