I HAVE JUST COMPLETED A SEVEN DAY TRIP TO THE UK. I SPENT FIVE DAYS IN LONDON MEETING WITH CLIENTS, SUPPLIERS AND OTHER TRADE CONTACTS, WITH A WEEKEND IN LEAFY SURREY MID WAY THROUGH MY VISIT. IT WAS ALL MOST ENJOYABLE AND WORTHWHILE, THOUGH SOMEONE HAD OBVIOUSLY FORGOTTEN TO TELL THE WEATHER THAT IT WAS SUMMER! IT WAS COOL WITH SOME SUNSHINE AND LOTS OF SHOWERS THROUGHOUT.
The West End was buzzing and the vacant shops that I had noted on my last trip, even in prime locations such as Bond Street and the Burlington Arcade, were clearly a thing of the past.
My trip coincided with one of the busiest times of year in the English sporting calendar. Royal Ascot was underway when I arrived, Wimbledon started mid way through and the Henley Regatta was scheduled to start a few days after my departure. New & Lingwood in Jermyn Street, St James clearly had the latter in mind when they created this wonderful, colourful window display. I’d love the opportunity to make something in a similar vein for my Sydney clients.
Born in 1949 and christened John Handel Lawson Cutler, I am the fourth generation of my family to take up the tailor's shears. I joined the family business straight from school at 16 years of age. Even before then I had always shown a very keen interest in bespoke tailoring and shirt making.

There is something that truly sets the heart pounding about the meeting of Old and New Bond streets on a Summer’s day.
